The 'thing' makes Motherhood (parenthood) completely worth it
This is not my typical posting but it has been on my mind lately. I love being a mother, but some days it is overly exhausting and completely frustrating. Lately my one year old has found it fun to throw everything especially food resulting in large messes. He also likes to throw his pacifier in sacrament meeting. True, he usually only does this when he is tired and cranky but we always have sacrament when he is tired and cranky. I LOVE my child with all my heart but at times, he truly frustrates me. I want to be patient with him and I do indeed try my hardest, but at times I forget (like any normal human being).
Today, like most days, I was reminded of the reason why I wanted to be a mother in the first part. It is so rewarding to see your child grow, develop, and take hold of new concepts. I absolutely love having a front row seat to this wonderful creation I call my son. But today, I was doing the dishes while my son was in his high chair. I look over at him and he gave me the biggest cheesiest smile. And right then, my heart melted and I remember why I love being a mother. Children are brilliant creatures that just are not sure how to communicate effectively yet. We do not give them enough credit. They know more than we perceive.
So whenever you are frustrated with your children and your life, your sleepless nights because of a teething baby or a toddler having nightmares or your teenager is out on a date, remember why you wanted to be a parent in the first place and know that this stage too shall pass. But I beg you to enjoy every moment while it lasts. You won't always having those quiet moments of looking into your newborn's eyes or your toddler wanting to always give you a big hug or your child asking for advice about a life mishap. Love every moment. Remember that it is okay to be frustrated and need a break. Have your spouse watch your child while your have "me time." I know that this might not help anyone, but if it inspires one person then I feel accomplished in sharing it. :)

So true! It's so hard, but the work is so worth it.
